Looe Music Festival was always conceived as a non-profit organisation, with the idea to plough any surplus monies back in to next year’s event to make it bigger and better. Fundamental to this is to spread a knowledge and love of music in all its forms across the wider Looe and South East Cornwall community. We achieved recognition for our aims and charitable status in March 2012.
In 2013 we converted from a standard registered charity to a CIO (charitable incorporated organisation). As such the registered charity number changed from 1146140 to 1152285. The conversion from one charitable body to another was purely to give trustees some financial protection and to aid in recruitment of new trustees. The new charity was created in June 2013 and the old charity was closed in July once all the assets were transferred to the new charity in the transfer of undertakings process.
The conversion and transfer was handled by Earl & Crocker Solicitors, Liskeard on our behalf. There was no interruption of service from a charity perspective. There is no change to our VAT registration number, and it is business as usual as far as Looe Music Festival concerned. The event is still a not-for-profit event delivered by a registered charity, the aims and aspirations of which are still focused on community betterment and other charitable endeavours.
