The Jesus & Mary Chain

Musically, culturally and in sheer attitude, The Jesus and Mary Chain stand alone. Their seminal debut album ‘Psychocandy’ changed the course of popular music, channelling the sneering angst and noise distortion of their infamous live shows into hypnotic sweet melodies layered with dark lyrics that would beguile and bewilder.

Formed in East Kilbride, Scotland in 1983 around the writing partnership of brothers William and Jim Reid they soon caught the attention of Creation Records.

Iconic tracks, ‘April Skies’, ‘Happy When it Rains’, ‘Head On’, ‘Cracking Up’, ‘Just Like Honey’, and ‘Taste of Cindy’ soon followed.

A succession of well-documented break-ups fuelled by brotherly love and internal tensions became the norm for nearly two decades and it wasn’t until 2007 that The Jesus and Mary Chain reformed. Last year saw the band celebrating the 30th anniversary of ‘Psychocandy’ with a series of shows and festival dates across the globe.

With the announcement that March 2017 will see the release of their first album in almost 20 years, Looe Music Festival will be the only chance to catch The Jesus and Mary Chain live in South West next year.
