Quirky folk rockers Serious Child have built a lively following in West Sussex, where they are known their eclectic mix of folk, latin and acoustic rock. Weaving big melodies and sweet harmonies into offbeat stories of ageing gangsters, caterpillars and forgetfulness, their songs lie somewhere on the invisible line between The Divine Comedy and John Martyn.
Serious Child was originally formed by singer Dr Al at a songwriting workshop in the Scottish Highlands in 2015. Since then he has been joined by Carla March (vocals), Steve Welch (bass and keyboards), Andy Evans (guitar) and Steve Hedges (drums). The band have just recorded their debut album with producer Boo Hewerdine (The Bible, Eddi Reader), which will be released on Looe’s own TCR Music label later this year.
See them perform at the harbour on Saturday.
