LMF welcomes international artists to Cornwall

This year we’re welcoming a host of international performers to Cornwall during LMF.

Travelling approximately 2,620 miles from Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada Meaghan Blanchard is a 24-year-old multi-award winning singer songwriter. A gifted guitarist, Meaghan performs her own blend of light claw hammer/finger picking style; paired with a crystal pure voice and a unique ability to write and tell stories through charming character driven songs. Also travelling from PEI, The Royal North is bringing a healthy dose of rock to the stage on Sunday.

Singing together for over twenty-five years Nordet hail from Lorient in Brittany, home to a rich tradition of songs from the sea. No strangers to performing in fishing ports across the world they bring a wonderful Breton experience whether they’re singing acapella in harmony, or accompanied by accordion, guitar and bouzouki.

Joining Looe Music Festival from fellow Celtic nation Wales, Mike Dennis, is a classically-trained violinist whose boyhood love of Run DMC, Beastie Boys and ‘Gangstarr’ led him to create a unique kind of string-heavy hip hop music he refers to as ‘Violinica’. Using a violin, a loop pedal and a cajon, his performance is like nothing else on the line-up.

Crossing the Irish sea The Undertones lead the line-up from Ireland. Playing hits such as My Perfect Cousin, Jimmy Jimmy, Here Comes the Summer and Wednesday Week out onto the beach on Saturday. Also travelling from Ireland, Breaking Trad is made up of Dónal Murphy from West Limerick (winner of numerous All-Ireland titles on both Button Accordion and Melodeon), Niall Murphy from South Armagh (All-Ireland Senior Fiddle Champion), and also multi-Instrumentalist Mike Galvin. Plus Northern Ireland Music Prize shortlisted band Ports who’s debut album ‘‘The Devil is a Songbird’ was released last year.

Headliners Lulu and The Jesus and Mary Chain fly the flag for Scotland. Whilst this year’s BBC Music Introducing line-up showcases Cornwall’s upcoming talent, with highlights from Echo Town, Daytoner, Backbeat Soundsystem, Malavita, Daisy Clark and 50 Year Storm.
