Young Songwriter of the Year 2016
Last year, Joe Hawkins was crowned Looe Music Festival’s first ever, Young Songwriter of the Year. Joe played live at LMF15, recorded his song in the studio and even went on to have his winning song, A Million Miles Away, played on BBC Radio Cornwall.
We’re passionate about giving Cornwall a stage to show off some of our amazing homegrown talent. That’s why, this year, we’re doing it all again and giving budding songsmiths in Cornwall the chance to have their song performed on stage, recorded in a professional studio session, made into 100 CD copies, and released for the world to hear on iTunes and Spotify. All that as a top prize, along with a massive goody bag of great prizes, handpicked for music fans.
It’s an incredible opportunity for one young (aged 11-16) songwriter in Cornwall, so if that’s someone you know – even if they’ve never written a song of their own before – be sure to let them in on it. The deadline for entry is 31st August 2016.
Sound Good? Get writing
To enter, you just need to get your song up on Youtube or Soundcloud, and send us a link. You don’t even need to perform it yourself – it’s a songwriting competition, not a singing contest, so get a friend to sing it if you’re shy.
THE PRIZE PACKAGE
The winning songwriter will receive:
- A recording session – spend an afternoon or evening at Cube Recording Studio in Truro. You’ll work with our team of professional session musicians and singers, a sound engineer and a producer who will record a version of your song
- 100 copies of your song on CD – after mixing and mastering you’ll receive 100 copies of your song on CD. It’ll also be uploaded on to iTunes and Spotify
- Family tickets to Looe Music Festival – you’ll enjoy a free family ticket to Looe Music Festival 2016 (worth over £200), and the opportunity to hear your song performed live on stage by one of this year’s acts
- Goody bag – stuffed full of Looe Music Festival and music related goodies
HOW DO I ENTER?
It’s simple: all you need are two verses, a chorus and a melody line. To enter your song, simply make a video or audio recording of yourself (or someone else) singing it, and upload it to your own Youtube or Soundcloud page. Then email us a link to it (make sure it’s clearly titled, with ‘SONGWRITER’ in the subject line), together with your name, age and contact details to firstname.lastname@example.org. That’s it! Our judges will review all entries and pick a winner.
